VUTEk UltraVu™ 2360 SC, perfect for when things get hot
May 26, 2002 - Large format printer Horizon Graphics of Pakistan, has installed an UltraVu™ 2360 SC - its second VUTEk printer in six months. It cites VUTEk’s high-quality inks as the main reason for its choice. Their ability to withstand Pakistan’s extremely hot climate ensures the quality and durability of Horizon Graphics printed products.
Irfan Halai, Partner, Horizon Graphics comments, ‘Maintaining color consistency on press is the biggest problem in a hot climate - especially with cyan, magenta and yellow inks. But by using the VUTEk printers, high-quality print can be virtually guaranteed, with the lifetime of any printed item assured for 18 months. Most other manufacturers can’t match this.’
This is especially important for one of Horizon Graphics biggest clients, Lakson Tobacco, and its project to print the signage and advertising banners for more than 17 of Pakistan’s National Railway Stations.
For this job, Horizon Graphics will print about 20,000 square feet of backlit signage, ranging from 4ft x 4ft platform signs to 20ft x 60ft wall murals. Because many signs are installed outside, durability is important, to withstand the effects of intense heat and light. Other printed items include advertising signage for waiting rooms, restaurants, booking offices and entrance halls.
Specializing in medium to large format digital printing, Horizon Graphics works for three main clients - Lakson Tobacco, the consumer products company Lever Brothers and the confectionery giant Nestlé. For these clients it produces graphics ranging from billboards and shop fascias to exhibition stands for brands including Morven Gold Cigarettes, Surf washing powder and Nestlé Pure Life mineral water.
Irfan continues, ‘After installing our UltraVu™ 3300 we were very excited, as we realized that the speed and reliability of the machine meant we could finish all our jobs within normal working hours, and go home on time.’
‘However, we soon realized how wrong we were. After three months of production, our work load had become so intense that we ordered a VUTEk UltraVu 2360 SC. Two months on, we are again battling to keep up with our workload, negotiating to purchase our third VUTEk, the UltraVu 3360 FC.’
Irfan comments, ‘The UltraVu 2360 SC gives us much smoother skin tones and better colors than any other printer on the market. It has definitely given us an edge over the competition, who are still using four-color machines to do medium format outdoor graphics.’
‘The quality of colors produced by the UltraVu 2360 SC and its PANTONE® color matching capability is excellent. We also enjoy incredible reliability from the VUTEk printers, and from their back-up team. If anything goes wrong, we call VUTEk and their engineer calls us right back from the USA to solve the problem – this is invaluable, as we can’t afford to have any downtime. I don’t think that any other large format manufacturer is able to provide the same level of service in Pakistan.’
According to Irfan, the Pakistani large format market is still dominated by hand painted signage, which accounts for 70% of production. Despite this, its large format digital print market produces roughly 1.25 million square feet per year, and is growing at an annual rate of 50%. Irfan believes that Horizon Graphics has 30% of this market share.
Horizon Graphics was established in 1999 by brothers Irfan and Adam Halai. Currently employing 30 members of staff, it specializes in providing all forms of large format printing, claiming to be the only print house in Pakistan to offer its customers a variety of media, ranging from self-adhesive vinyl to back and front-lit flexible face substrates.
Other equipment used by Horizon Graphics include an HP 5000 60, HP 3500 CP 54, Mutoh Albatross Solvent 54, Graphtec 30 Plotter, GBC 60 Laminator, FIAB P5 High Frequency Seaming machine with a 33ft. bed.
Irfan concludes, ‘I am very happy with VUTEk, and wouldn’t buy another machine from any other manufacturer.’
